Jack Russell Bennett

Jack Russell Bennett, 84, of 315 Beaverdam Road, Asheville, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Bennett was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late Gola and Marcelle Grimes Bennett. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rita Durner. Mr. Bennett was a retired Systems Auditor with the U.S. Postal Service. In the 28 years of his retirement, Jack devoted his time to his many hobbies. Among them were collecting stamps and coins, studying and tracking weather, and photography. He also spent his happiest days with his wife gardening and bird watching. He was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Meehan Bennett; four daughters, Mary Morrow and her husband, Mike, of Waxhaw, Tricia Summitt and her husband, Mark, of Carrollton, VA, Betty Abshire of Asheville, and Laurie Wolf of Waxhaw, and ten grandchildren, Nicholas Summitt, Matthew Summitt, Jordan Morrow, Jackson Morrow, Ashley Morrow, Lauren Morrow, Corey Abshire, Amy Abshire, Bennett Wolf, and Madeline Wolf. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Eugene Catholic Church by the Rev. Fr. John Schneider. Interment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Memorials may be made to St. Eugene Catholic Church, 72 Culvern Street, Asheville, NC 28804.
