Jacob Junior Ayers, 86, of Asheville, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at the NC State Veteran’s Nursing Home in Black Mountain.

A native of McDowell Co., Jacob was a son of the late James and Minnie Creson Ayers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Roberta “Bobbie” Ayers. He was the youngest of 17 children.

Mr. Ayers was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Cranston Print Works and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. He was a fine Christian family man.

Surviving is his daughter, Diane Watts (Lee); sons, Gerald Ayers (Debra) and Daniel Ayers (Theresa); sister, Lillian Ayers; and 7 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery, with Rev. Allen Rash officiating.

  2. I really enjoyed the many hours I have spent with Jacob over the years I have known him. Sometimes I think he called to have me come to fix something just so we could share some stories together. I will miss my buddy.

  3. Jacob was a good friend and an honest, church going, Christ believing man. We had almost daily conversations on the phone after he and I both became home bound. He was a good man and I am sure he is in a better place. I will miss you.
