James Berlin Woody, 88, of Asheville, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021.
Mr. Woody was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, retired Captain of the Asheville Fire Department, and was a member of Jones Valley Baptist Church.
Surviving are three children, eight grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jones Valley Baptist Church, 153 Big Sandy Mush Rd., Leicester, NC 28748.

I have know JB for many years from going to my dad, BB Harwood’s Auctions..Those were some good days. He will be missed. My Dad passed 23 years June 10th as of this year. Sorry for your loss..God Bless.
I knew JB from AFD station 3 and always enjoyed working with him. He made us laugh many times back then and still does when we tell the stories! Prayers for JB’s family and friends.

I never worked with Capt. Woody as he was on a different shift, but heard many stories from Capt, Tweed & Capt. Calloway and other great men that often brought laughter to your day. I was on R-33 for a while and would here many tails, RIP Captain Woody and prayers to the Family.
I worked with JB for 30 years. When he was driver at station to ,when was a captain. He was good friend. Sorry to hear he’s passing. We are all brothers.
