James Broadus Morrow

james morrow
James Broadus "Jim" Morrow, 72, entered into eternal life on June 15, 2013, the anniversary of his wedding day to Mary forty-five years ago. Jim was born on December 6, 1940 to the late John Broadus and Gertrude Guffey Morrow of Fairview, North Carolina. Jim attended Fairview School and then AC Reynolds High School and was best remembered as a genuine, kind person. Jim attended Mars Hill College for three years and then served in the United States Army from 1963-1965. Jim worked for Gray and Creech for 27 years, and then after a two week "retirement", went to work for Ken Wilson Ford where he enjoyed ten additional years of serving customers with kindness and integrity. Jim was a member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church where he served as Treasurer for thirteen years. He loved his church family and enjoyed volunteering in the church Nursery with his wife Mary. While at Grassy Branch, Jim taught the Pioneers in AWANA for ten years, and actively participated in both Relay for Life and the local Man to Man support group for prostate cancer survivors. Jim enjoyed taking his family on vacations, maintaining the family land where he was raised and lived his whole life, and working hard at perfecting his golf game although not as much as he worked at perfecting his faith. Jim's family was his life, especially his grandchildren who called him "Papa" and for whom he was a hero and loving caregiver. He also cherished his friends, both old and new, and was known for giving family and close friends special nicknames that we each treasure. For Jim, to live was Christ and to die was gain; his hope was the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He lived his faith through his kindness, compassion, patience and selflessness. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mary; children, Stephen (Angela) of Wilmington DE, Heather (Christopher) Morrow-Almeida of Portland OR, and Holli (William) Morrow-McCarley of Iva SC; grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan, Rose, William and the little "papoose", as Jim called his newest grandbaby, due in August. Additionally, Jim is survived by his sisters June (Jerry) Napier, Elaine Lisenbee and Ann (Richard) Bellflower, their children and grandchildren for whom he was a favorite uncle, as well as many other relatives and friends. The family will receive guests on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Grassy Branch Baptist Church, 499 Riceville Rd., Asheville, NC. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 2 pm, also at the church, Reverends Ken Sausedo, Charles Rogers, and Chris Reese officiating. A private burial will be immediately after at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Fairview. The family requests memorial donations be made to Jim's Relay for Life Team at: http://www.grassybranch.org/relay.html To leave condolences for Jim's Family, please visit: http://jamesbroadusmorrow.blogspot.com Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

Guestbook

  1. I first met Jimmy when we were in the first grade at Fairview. We went to school together until high school graduation. WE lived not far apart on Old Fort Road. We would sometimes get together as young boys and do what young boys do. I do not remember much of that but I am sure that we had a good time. Best wishes to his family.

  2. As with Wade I also was with Jimmy from first grade to high school graduation. It was the ‘GOOD OLE DAYS’ we knew everyone in Fairview; in Church, School or work. Jim was a precious man. May God bless and keep his family.

My mind is flooded with memories of time spent with Jim and all of you. I treasure the memories of our trip to Jekyll. Most of all, I will always cherish the time I spent with Jim at the hospital. He was still able to smile and be uplifting. Earth’s loss is Heaven’s gain and I know Jim is sitting at the right hand of God rejoicing and worshipping our Savior.

I am praying for you all and I know I have said it before, but if I can do anything, please call me. I love all of you dearly.

  18. At a time such as this words can’t adequately describe the sadness we feel knowing that Jim is no longer with us, but if we will believe in Christ as Jim did, we haven’t seen the last of him, some day we will be reunited with him on streets of gold. Jim’s character, personality, and pleasant smile made it easy to love him, he was one of the good guys. Mary our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family in this time of sorrow, may God richly bless all of you.

  19. Mary, so sad to hear of your loss. Hayes joins me in extending our sympathy to you and your family during this time.

  20. My condolences to all of the family. Jim always had such elegance about him. He was a kind and gentle soul, like his father, Broadus (that my Dad, Doc Harper, loved so much). My husband, Danny Lewis, so admired Jim. Jim influenced all of us to be better people just by his example. May all of you find solace in the fond memories that you have created/shared over the years and may it warm your heart to know that so many thought so highly of your father/husband. I know he will live on in your hearts.
    Warm Regards,
    Teresa Harper

  21. Mary,Holly,Heather,Stephen,and Family
Vickie and I would like to express our sorrow at the passing of Jim. We will always remember that big smile and warm heart that Jim possessed. Jim always expressed the ultimate characteristic of truthfulness that is so hard to find. We know that Jim is in the presence of his savior that he so diligently served while on earth. We are praying that God will bring peace and comfort during the difficult days ahead.
    Ed and Vickie
