Arden ~ James Charles “ Charlie” Ward , 78 , of Long Shoals Road , died on Friday, May 25, 2007 in a local hospital. He was a native of Buncombe County and was the son of the late Pierce Ward and Dorothy Frady Ward. He was a retired engineer with 34 years of service to General Electric Corp. A US Army Veteran he was a member of the steel guitar forum and Long Shoals Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, of 51 years, Eleanor Brooks Ward of Arden; a daughter, Connie Ward Slack of Arden; two sons, Martin Pierce Ward of Mills River and Randall Charles Ward of Arden; two grandchildren, Briana Marie Slack and Cheryl Lavonne Slack. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday at Long Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Rearden officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long Shoals Baptist Church, 661 Long Shoals Road, Arden, NC 28704.

He was the one that started my new steel guitar that I cherish. The finished product had the evidence of Charlie’s craftmanship in it. He was one of a kind and I was proud to call him friend.   10. I hope someone in Mr. Ward’s family might see this…Is this the same Charles Ward that attended Clemson as a Clemson Cadet? If so, I have a photo of him I would like to get back to his family.
