James Richard “Rick” Craig, Sr. Arden ~ James Richard “Rick” Craig, Sr., 55, of Avery’s Creek, entered into eternal peace on July 30, 2007. He was born July 3, 1952 to Audrey Gasperson Craig of Arden and the late John R. Craig, Sr. Affectionately known as Rick to his family and many friends, he was a 1971 graduate of T.C. Roberson High School. Rick loved spending time with family, camping at “the river” and enjoyed water skiing at the lake. He was an avid cook and devoted a lot of time cooking for others and was well known for his “River Beans.” He was a member of the Avery‘s Creek Trail Riders and each fall, enjoyed the annual wagon train. Those left behind have many fond memories to cherish and treasure forever. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 13 years, Shelia Rhinehart Craig; two daughters, Constance Tami Leano and Audra Craig both of Miami, Fl.; a son, Jesse Craig of the home; two brothers, Rusty Craig and his wife, Mary Jo, and Rod Craig and his wife, Linda,; a sister, Mary Beth Curtis and her husband, Frank, all of Arden and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Rick will be held at “the river” 6:00pm Thursday, August 2, 2007. For directions please call 684-6945. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Rick’s memory go to ABCCM, 30 Cumberland Avenue, Ashe-ville, NC 28801. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road, Arden NC is in charge of the arrangements.

  1. Hi Sheila, we worked together at Ball in the 80’s. So very sorry to hear of your loss. Edna Griffith told me and she asked me to convey her sympathy, also. She is working today but I retired a year ago. Take care and know that we love you and are praying for you and your son.

  6. So sorry, we do not get a paper and did not hear any news of Rick until this evening, Thursday. We regret not being able to come to the ‘river’ and celebrate his life with family and friends that were gathered there.
