James D. Hagan, 82, of 8 Langwell Avenue, formerly of New Leicester Highway, Asheville, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003, in an Asheville hospital.
Mr. Hagan was born in Buncombe County and grew up in the North Fork section of Barnardsville. He was married to Margie Poole Carter Hagan who died November 14, 2001, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Isabelle S. Ammons. He served as an Army Master Sergeant in the South Pacific, Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines during WW II. He was a retired carpenter who formerly worked with Merchant Construction Co. and Southworth Construction Co. He was a member of Dix Creek Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Joanne Carter Gunter and her husband Robert of Asheville; a son Richard Edward Carter and his wife Evelyn of Asheville; a grandson Eric McGee and his wife Renee; a great-grandson William Carter McGee; and several cousins including Agnes Stone and Grace Harrell.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Kris Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery.
His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
