James Donald Rogers, 75, of 2038 Pisgah Highway, Candler, died Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Hobart McKinley and Mae Henderson Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Lindsey Rogers and by a step-son, William Cortez Westall. He retired from Biltmore Press after 28 years of service as a printer and served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. Mr. Rogers is survived by a son, Randall E. Rogers of Candler; a step-son, Edgar Dale Westall of Candler; a sister, Catherine Alquist of Stacy, Minnesota; three brothers, Jack Rogers of Bristol, TN, Cecil Rogers of Candler and Willis Rogers of Wyoming, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Pisgah United Methodist Church with the Revs. H. D. Houck and Jerry Denham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7:00-8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801.
