James E. Wilkey, 70, of 155 Edgewood Road, Candler, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the VA Medical Center.
Mr. Wilkey was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Gus and Hazel Mitchell Wilkey. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church. He was a former driver for Peebles Oil Co. and Walls and Marshall Oil Co.
He is survived by his special friend, Irene Guy; four sisters, Rebecca Edwards of Canton, Frances Whitted of Candler, Bobbie Ann Johnson of Asheville, and Alice Morgan and her husband Clayton of Candler; a brother, Lloyd Wilkey and his wife Ruth of Enka; several nieces and nephews and a long-time friend, D.G. Young.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. David Gentry and Charles Shelton officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, PO Box 2702, Asheville, NC 28802.
