James Edward Roberts, 71, of 167 Merchant Street, died Saturday, April 9, 2011.
Mr. Roberts was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Anderson and Geneva Green Roberts. He was employed at Blue Ridge Plating Co. and had attended Oakley Baptist Church. He was a lifetime outdoor sportsman and loved his dogs, Lucky and Daisy.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lyda Roberts; two daughters, Debbie Stewart (& Terry Lee) and Karen Jean Roberts, all of Asheville; grandchildren, Wendy Marie Alexander, Jason, Matthew, and Ashlee Stewart, and Richard Travis Barlow; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Landford and Sandy Hoyle and three brothers, Robin, Randy and Kenneth Roberts.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Patricia Fountain officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
