Asheville ~ James Edward Wooten, 71, of 775 Caribou Road, Asheville, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at his residence.

Mr. Wooten was a native of Clarksville, TN and had lived in Asheville for six years. He served in the US Marines during World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired following 22 years of military service as a warrant officer. Mr. Wooten was a member of the Morven United Methodist Church of Morven, NC and also held membership in the Mason Kilwinning Lodge #64 and was a lifetime member of The Retired Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes Massey Wooten; one daughter, Kay Sasso of Bow, NH; two sons, David Wooten of Cumming, GA and Eddie Wooten of Morven, NC; two granddaughters, Megan Wooten and Rebecca Sasso; one grandson, Michael Sasso; one brother, Bob Wooten of Clarksville, Tenn.

Funeral services for Mr. Wooten will be held Saturday, August 26 at 11:00 AM at Morven United Methodist Church, Morven, NC with Rev. Earl Bradshaw officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Morven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 25 from 7:00-8:30 PM at Moore Funeral Home in Wadesboro, NC.

Memorials may be made to the Memorial Mission Hospital Heart Center, 509 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, NC 28801.

Local arrangements are being handled by Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
