James Edwin Guy, 78, of Billy Cove Road, Candler, passed away unexpectedly at the Asheville VA Medical Center, Saturday, June 24, 2006.
He was the son of the late Monnie Allen Guy and William Arthur Guy. He was also preceded in death by four sisters: Mildred Warren, Macie Reece, Inez Daniel, and Lacy Taylor, and four brothers: Eldred Guy, Leslie Guy, C.B. Guy, and William Guy.
He served in the Korean War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and served with the 17th Infantry Regiment (the Buffaloes). He was also awarded the Korean Ribbon with three battle stars, the U.N. Ribbon, the Unit Citation and the Combat Infantry Badge. Mr. Guy was a member of Candler V.F.W. Post 9939. Mr. Guy was a member of Brown’s View United Methodist Church in Candler.
Mr. Guy is survived by his son, Douglas; two sisters, Irene Guy, of Candler, and Elsie Propest, of Asheville; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and special niece, Helen Brown.
A funeral service will be held for Mr. Guy on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Brown’s View United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Ed Worley and George Davis officiating.
Interment will follow in the church’s cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

We are so sorry to hear of Ed’s death, but we know he is with God and that is such a blessing. I know this was your only brother left and you will both miss him very much. Irene you took such wonderful care of Ed and you are a blessing to Rick and me. We love you and Elsie and you are in our prayers.
