James Garrison “Curly” Chapman, 46, of 43 English Road, Candler, died Thursday, October 2, 2003. Mr. Chapman was born in Buncombe County and was a son of James Edward “Red” Chapman of Marion and Mary Josephine Haney Chapman of Asheville. He was an Army veteran and worked as an auto body mechanic with Cordell’s Body Shop. He was an avid motorcycle rider and NASCAR fan. He was a loving father, husband, best Papaw and friend and in addition to his parents is survived by his former wife, LuAnn Chapman of Deltona, FL; four daughters, Jennifer Chapman and her husband Chris Carver of Candler, Kelly Case and Brian of Candler, Jamie Chapman of Deltona, FL, and Autumn Applegate of Candler; a son, Joshua Applegate of Deltona, FL; five grandchildren, Christopher Carver, Kacie Spooner, Karen Case, Rebecca Case, and Brianna Case; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Warren and her husband Phillip of Columbia, SC and Martha Jane West and her husband Keith of Fines Creek; three brothers, Johnny Edward Chapman and his wife Joyce and William Jack Chapman of Asheville and Robert Lee Chapman and his wife Lola of Candler; and his lifelong best friend Billy Willingham. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Monday by Keith West and Rev. James Moore in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. His family will receive friends at 125 Fairfax Avenue, Asheville.
