Biltmore Forest - James Gavin MacWilliam, 64, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, surrounded by his family at the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Solace Center.
Gavin was born in Omaha, NE, and was a son of Rosalie Edwards MacWilliam of Arden and the late James Harold MacWilliam. Growing up in a military family, he enjoyed the experience of living in many parts of the country. His teenage years were spent living on a small horse farm in northern Virginia. After graduating high school and marrying his sweetheart, he proudly served with the Virginia Air National Guard.
In 1981, Gavin and his family moved to Asheville where he owned and operated Rent-All for the next 31 years. He enjoyed giving back to his community by donating rental equipment to various organizations, including Eblen Charities and Saint Joan of Arc Church. Gavin is survived by his wife, Jo Coppock MacWilliam; son, Sean MacWilliam (Karen); grandchildren Ethan and Jackson MacWilliam; sister, Marianna O'Dwyer (Brian), and brother, Stewart MacWilliam.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Fr. Dean Cesa at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
