James Harvey Redmon, Sr., 85, of Wedgefield Dr., Asheville, died on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at St. Joseph Campus, Mission Hospitals. Mr. Redmon was a native of Asheville, and was a son of the late Harold Vance and Sallie Poovey Redmon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Murphy Redmon; brother, William Lee Redmon; and grandson, C. "Cole" Edmonds. Mr. Redmon retired in 1986 from Deal Buick, where he worked as a mechanic. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII on the U.S.S. Biloxi. He was awarded the American Area, Victory, Asiatic-Pacific Area and Nine Stars, and Philippine Liberation and Two Stars medals. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Mr. Redmon is survived by his daughter, Dianne Edmonds and husband Cecil, of Asheville; son, James Harvey Redmon, Jr., and wife Barbara, of Arden; sister, Bernice Redmon Bass, of Hickory; brothers, Herman Vance Redmon, of Asheville, and Thurman Harold Redmon, of Brevard; and granddaughter, Alana Haney, of Fletcher. A funeral service for Mr. Redmon will be at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Christopher Webb and Vicar Andrew Isenhower officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, P.O.   1. My Papaw was the BEST man I have ever met. I was extremely proud to be his granddaughter. I will miss his precious face and sweet smile until I see him again! I thank God often for blessing me with such an amazing person.

    I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a sweet man. I only got to meet him once, but it was a time I’ll never forget! Love you all and my prayers are with you.
    PS… I can only imagine the fun that he and Cole are having in Heaven–probably picking on Pearl!!

    My sincere sympathy to all the family. I will always remember the times Mr. Redmon would come in at Hearts With Hands. We would talk each time he came in to make a donation. He loved his family. He was a very special person. May God Bless each of you.
