Asheville - James J. Burke, 84, of Cloverleaf Lane, died Monday, November 19, 2001.

A native of New York City, he was the son of the late James and Bridget O’Donoghue Burke. Mr. Burke was a retired police officer and a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Hall Burke; two sisters, Marguerite Sweny of Decatur, Georgia and Eileen Chojnowski of Melville, NY and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said by Rev. Fr. Roger Arnsparger at 10 am Wednesday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Churchyard in Fletcher.

Mr. Burke’s family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road. The rosary will be said at 8:15 pm.
