James (Jim) Clow died on October 17, 2023 at the age of 84 at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville, NC.

Jim was born June 4, 1939 in Jamestown, North Dakota to the late James Eli and Violet Miller Clow. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Donene Sorenson.

After High School in Jamestown, Jim attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota where he received a degree in Pharmacy. While at North Dakota State he participated in several college sports including high diving and in pole vaulting where he was the regional champion.

After graduation he enlisted in the US Army. After Basic Training at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina he served in the 82nd Airborne Division with time in Vietnam in the Special Forces as a Green Beret.

When his service was completed, he moved to Smithfield, North Carolina and purchased a drug store which later became Smithfield Drug Store, a large store which served the community as a pharmacy and a small variety store. Also he purchased and ran two smaller stores, one in Smithfield and one in Wallace, North Carolina.

When he later sold the stores he lived for a while in Cary, North Carolina and then completed his retirement moving to St. James Plantation in Southport, North Carolina in 1999 where he enjoyed many friends and playing lots of golf.

In 2015, he and his wife, Madelyn made the move to the Deerfield Retirement Community and enjoyed exploring areas in the mountains around Asheville.

He is survived by his daughter, Kay Nell Clow Boykin and his wife, Madelyn Eve Clow.
