JAMES ROGER BOYD James Roger Boyd, 42, of Morgan City, LA, formerly of Alexander, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 13, 2003, while at work on a supply boat in the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Boyd was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late James Robert Boyd. He worked as a crew member on an oil rig platform supply boat in the Gulf. He enjoyed visiting the mountains and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Howell Keyes and her husband Howard Keyes of Asheville; one son, J.J. Boyd of Mars Hill; one sister, Tina Thompson of Clyde; four brothers, Ricky Boyd of Lawrenceville, GA, Randy Boyd of Alexander, Reggie Boyd of Marshall and Billy Jack Boyd of Asheville; and his paternal grandmother, Marie Boyd of Marshall. He was also the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Howell. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday at the Lunsford Cemetery at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Mag Sluder Road with the Rev. Bob Ballard officiating. Memorials in Roger’s name may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
