Asheville, NC – James Thomas Lee Ryan, 82, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017. A native of New York, he was the son of the late John Joseph Ryan and Marion Lee Ryan. Mr. Ryan was a graduate of the Pomfret School in Pomfret, Connecticut and received a BA Degree in Business Administration from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. He served in the U.S. Army and returned to work with the J.P. Stevens & Co. in Greensboro, NC and New York. He then began a long career with the Marine Midland Bank in New York, serving as a Systems and Research Officer. Mr. Ryan was a former member of the Rockaway Hunting Club (Lawrence, L.I.), Racquet & Tennis Club (New York), Lawrence Beach Club (Lawrence, L.I.), the Cedarhurst Yacht Club (Lawrence, L.I.) and the Biltmore Forest Country Club (Biltmore Forest, NC). Mr. Ryan is survived by his sister, Mary Ryan Cecil; his brother, John J. Ryan, III and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service is planned for 12:00 noon, Friday, May 5, 2017 in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. Military honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
