James Ted Bradley, 72, of Asheville , died at his home on Friday, September 17, 2021.

Ted grew up in the Swannanoa Valley. He attended Charles D. Owen High School and graduated with the class of 1967. He was an active member of the Masons. Ted volunteered for the Vietnam War efforts by joining US Army and served in an active combat zone as a tank turret mechanic. He served 1968 to 1971. He was honorably discharged from the US Army.

Ted used his experience with heavy equipment and became a well-known welding fabricator and opened his own grading company.

In 1995, Ted joined the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. During his tenure there, Ted served as a detention officer, court security officer, civil process officer and ending his career as a school resource officer at Reynolds High School. Ted served the community as a deputy sheriff for twenty years. Ted spent his life working hard for others. Ted gave his life to God and was Baptized at Bee Tree Missionary Baptist Church.

Ted had a very comedic personality and spent most of his life trying to make those around him happy. He was selfless when he saw someone in need. He was tough when he needed to be at his work but he knew how to be compassionate when the situation called for it.

Ted held family standards above all other standards and taught it to others in life. He taught his sons to work hard, support family and worship God.

Ted is preceded in death by his mother, Leona Gunter Bradley; father, James Robert Bradley; and twin brother Ned Bradley, and sisters, Lillie Jones and Jeanette Halford.

He is survived by his sons, Tim (Carmen) Bradley, Mark (Kim) Bradley; daughter Joy Holloman; sister, Lois Jane Williams; brothers, Donald (Bud) Bradley and Ricky Bradley; grandchildren, Daniel Kilby, Chrissy Mooney, Allix Bradley, Jenny Bradley, Michael Elflein, Andrew Bradley. He had five great grandchildren.

Guestbook

  1. Dear Family, l worked with Officer Ted and he was always a pleasure to be around. I am so glad our paths crossed. BLESSINGS Pastor James Grant, Ret. Lt. # 17 BCSO

  2. To the family of James Ted Bradley; especially Tim, Mark and Joy: please accept the condolences of the veteran troopers pf the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment who served in Vietnam and Cambodia. We share in your grief, not in the same way as you or your family, but as your father’s brothers in combat. James Bradley served courageously with K Troop of the 11th Cav in 1969/70, and it was our honor to have him in the ranks of the Legendary Blackhorse Regiment. Additionally, he continued to serve his country and community as a Deputy Sheriff, known affectionately as “Officer Ted.” Our loss is that of another brother down, and even though we only learned of his passing recently, we respectfully salute him this day. We will honor his memory at our gatherings and on our newsletter. His name will be placed on the rolls of our honored dead. Grant him comfort O Lord, and with the help of our prayers, may his sins be wiped away. As our Burial announces: “His life has not ended, merely changed,” and as we were together then in Vietnam, we will be together again in the life hereafter, comfortably enfolded in the arms of our merciful Father.
