James Weaver “Jumbo” King, 74, of 743 Brevard Road, went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2002. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Hansel and Lottie Ward King. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Hilliard King. He was retired from Philips Electronics after 13 years of service. He leaves behind his companion of 30 years, Effie Ledford Blankenship and her daughters Charlene Blankenship and Marlene Silver; two sisters, Katie King Hooper of Asheville and Frances King McElearth of Hendersonville; three brothers, Robert R. King of Leicester, Ray King of Baltimore, MD and Carroll King of Asheville; five “special” grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Seth, Kassadie and Kyle. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Mr. Lionel D. Justice and Brother John Earl Kuykendall officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jasper Parton, Lionel Justice, Brandon Turner, Brian Whitener, Seth Silver and Kyle Turner. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home and request that memorials be sent to the Western Carolina Rescue Mission for the Homeless, 225 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
