Janet Macfarland Morris, 93, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Tuesday, January 9th, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde D. Morris, Jr.; her parents, Robin and Olive Newton Macfarland; sons, Jeffery and Robin; and her siblings, Robert, Betty, Eugene, and Barbara.

She is survived by her children, Bruce, Karen, Kim, and Frances; her bonus daughters, Leslie and Debbie; extra-bonus daughter, Pearl; sisters, Jo Ann Moody and Sandra Halstead; her seven grandchildren, Zack, Becky, Melody, Cody, Max, Greyson, and Faith; and two great-grandchildren, Barrett and Edgar.

She was an early member of the Buncombe County Rescue Squad and was a well-known and respected folk artist. She worked as a professional craftsman, was a life member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, and taught for A-B Technical Community College for 20 years. Jan’s art has been featured in many publications and has been displayed on the Christmas trees at the NC Governor’s Western Mansion and the White House Christmas tree.

A celebration of her life will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 20224, at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road.

  1. Aunt Janet was dearly loved and respected by her family and friends. A true artist who created original pieces and generously gave them away to those she loved. I will always treasure the work she made for me. Blessings on her family during this difficult time.

  2. Aunt Jan will be missed. She is the epitome of love and life. Her smile is infectious. She was talented and shared it with everyone. Her house was always the center of family gatherings. There was always love and laughter. I know she is with her husband, siblings, and parents having a great time but she will missed here on earth.

  7. Such a special lady! I always enjoyed her Facebook posts, and was glad we were able to talk a few months ago! I was so hoping to see her at the Morris-Kelley Reunion in Asheville next September! Prayers for all of the family!
