Janet Moore Rhodes, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

A native of Haywood Co., Janet lived in Candler all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Carthine Foister Moore. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Theodore Roosevelt Rhodes, Jr.

Mrs. Rhodes retired from the City of Asheville after 25 years of service and was a longtime member of Hominy Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Samantha Byrd (Rick); and two grandchildren, Geoffrey and Jennieve Davis.

Her family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hominy Baptist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastors Melissa Hughes and Kevin McDaniel will officiate. Interment will then take place at Pisgah View Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Daily Bread Program at Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Road, Candler, NC 28715

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  1. Janet was a very sweet lady her mom and my mom were best friends .Howard was gentle and giving I think of them often.Sorry for your loss

  4. Sorry for your loss! I worked with Janet at the City of Asheville, one of the sweetest, nicest people I worked with. We would talk at length about our children and family. After her retirement I haven’t seen her much, but I cherish the time we spent together. Cherish your memories, I’m sure you have many sweet ones of her.
