Janice Louise Eckert, 86, of Asheville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at her home on Sunday, March 20, 2016 A native of Miami, FL, she was a daughter of the late William Edward and Katherine Bradfisch Coombs. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Halford Charles Eckert and one daughter, Heidi Moreno. She is survived by one daughter, Terri Heacock and her husband, Ron, of Fairview; one son, James Michael Eckert and his wife, Sue, of CA; five grandchildren, Christiane Parsons, Stephen Douglas Mein, Neil Joseph Woerner, Kimberly Ann Bickley and Amanda Marie Moreno; great grandchildren, Casey Marie Ayer and her husband, Brian, Stefanie Michelle Gotschall and her husband, Matthew, Amy Elizabeth Mein, Andrea Renee Gregory and her husband, Adam, Ashley Marlaine Borders and her husband, Derek, Erika Nicole Parsons, Adrianna Nicole Woerner, Ginebra Woerner, Kayla Marie Reaber, Hannah Mein and Gatlynn Stephen Mein, as well as one cousin, Richard MacMullen and his wife, Shirley, and eighteen great-great grandchildren. Jan enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, camping, backpacking and gardening. She was a member of the Florida Trails Association and loved spending long afternoons on the Biltmore Estate. She was very strong in her political beliefs and attended many demonstrations with her Pastor. She was a strong proponent of animal rights and also enjoyed traveling and tai chi. Jan was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Above all else, she loved her family. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Fairview with Pastor David Eck officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that you make donations in Jan's memory to Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 801 Charlotte Highway, Fairview, NC 28730.
