Jay Cole, 94, of 1383 Newfound Road, Leicester, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at the VA Medical Center.
Mr. Cole was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late James and Eudora Hall Cole. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl W. Cole.
He was an Army veteran of WW II and was a cattle farmer and former owner of Jay Cole’s Gulf Station. He was a member, deacon, and Sunday School Teacher at Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, DeEtta Plemmons West Cole; one daughter, Nancy Cole Williams of Leicester; one brother, Pierce Cole of Whittier, CA; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Wendell Brittain and Kris D. Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 pm Sunday prior to the service.

A gentle soul in now in Heaven. His love and kind ways will always be with his family and friends. Uncle Jay will be in our hearts forever, until we meet again.

Years ago when I was a little tyke, Dad (Roy Lester) and I knew Jay. We lived in the Hayes Cove. We lost our mom (Myrtle) in August 97. I have three sisters, Phyllis, Carolyn, and Marie..Phyllis is almost gone herself. Hope you remember us. My dad worked at Enka. I graduated with the last class at Leicester High in 1961. Been a law enforcement officer over 30 years..all in Texas..God bless and keep all of you at this time. We also lost our oldest daughter Angie in Jan of this year to a drunk driver..she was 36.God bless you and keep your faith..bob Lester & family.
