J.D. Hollifield, 84, of Bent Creek, died peacefully Monday, October 7, 2013, at his home. Mr. Hollifield was born in Yancey County and was a son of the late Floyd and Bertha Silvers Hollifield. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. He was an Air Force veteran and owned/operated Hollifield's Garage and Service Station on Brevard Road for 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Emily Maureen Greene Hollifield; a son, Roger Hollifield of Asheville; grandsons, Casey and Chris; a sister, Edna Jones of Swannanoa; and two brothers, Henry N. Hollifield and Dewey Hollifield. Graveside services willl be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Hooper officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Ave.
