Jeanette Grace Hawkins Morgan, 80, of Candler, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 25, 2015. A native of Asheville, Mrs. Morgan was a daughter of the late Denver C. and Zola Mae Edwards Hawkins. Mrs. Morgan graduated from Woodfin High School, class of '53, and later from Western Carolina University, with a B.A. in Accounting. She worked for many years at both Carolina Industries and Day International in their accounting departments. She was also a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church. Mrs. Morgan is survived by her daughter, Pam Fortner (Boyce); sons, Roger Morgan (Christine), and Doug Morgan (Teresa); sisters, Maxine Ammons Glenda Sawyer Snelson, and Shirley McDevitt; brother, Gary Hawkins; grandchildren, Kristen Morgan, Tyler Fortner (Ashley), and Blake Fortner; and great-grandson, Avery Fortner. A funeral service for Mrs. Morgan will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with Pastor Veranita Alvord officiating. Interment will follow at New Morgan Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Francis Asbury United Methodist Church Howard Building Maintenance Fund, 725 Asbury Rd., Candler, NC 28715.
