Jeanette H. Peterson, 75, died Friday, August 26, 2016, at the Laurels at Summit Ridge. Born in Yancey County, Miss Peterson was a daughter of the late Homer and Pearl Gardner Peterson. She was well known at Little Pigs Barbecue Restaurant where she cooked for 30 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Swannanoa. Her family include a sister, June Peterson Benson of Maggie Valley; a brother, Bruce Peterson and his wife, Carol, of Fairview; nieces, Angela McFarland of Greensboro and Judith Carol Peterson of Georgia; nephews, Bruce Peterson, Jr. and Chuck Swiger of Asheville, Brian Benson of Sarasota, FL and Mike Peterson of Texas; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother, Evelyn Swiger and Earl Peterson, and by brothers-in-law, William "Bill" Benson and Wayne Swiger. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Rev. David Reeves officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery following the service.

  1. I enjoyed visiting and cooking for Jeanette. Her requests for chocolate cake always made me smile. Sympathy and prayers for the family.

  2. Jeanette worked for me at Little Pigs for more than 20 yrs doing any and all Jobs ask of her. She was a loving and beautiful soul and loved by all who knew her. I loved her as a co-worker and as a person. My condolences goes out to all her family and all who loved her. I thank Joe and Peggy Swicegood for giving her a job at Little Pigs and help look after her well being for more than 30 yrs. Thank you Jeanette for all you did for me in helping me operate Little Pigs. I love you.

  3. Jeanette was so funny and sweet, and she was such a dependable worker. I will never forget her hugs and her laugh, and her amazing memory for dates. She is so intricately a part of memories and stories about Little Pigs. She will be missed, but never forgotten.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Jeanette and her family. Stay out of trouble, girl!
