Jeffery Alan Johnson died October 20, 2015 at Solace Hospice in Asheville N.C. He was born July 24, 1949. A graduate of McMinn County High School, he studied at Boston University before earning a B.A. degree in history from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and pursuing advanced studies at East Tennessee State University. He worked for several Federal government agencies, including the Office of Surface Mines and the U.S. Census Bureau; and as a mechanical contractor for NEO Inc. in North Carolina, living in Durham and Asheville. Jeff had wide-ranging interests, a broad perspective of the world, and kept everyone he knew well supplied with books, music and conversation. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Johnson, and younger brother Michael. He is survived by his mother, Alliene Luckenbaugh Johnson; a brother, David, Athens, Ga.; sisters Kristine Johnson, Sevierville, Tenn.; Linnea McClellan (James); Hartsville, Ala.; Barbara Kennedy (Jim), Chattanooga, Tenn.; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles. The family wishes to thank Michaeline Walsh, visiting caregiver throughout Jeff's illness, and the kind and compassionate staff at Solace Hospice and at Black Mountain Neuromedical Treatment Center for their excellent care and support. Memorial donations to either facility would be appreciated.
