Jennie Mae Curtis Young, 99, of Candler, died on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at the Laurels of Green Tree Ridge.
A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Young was a daughter of the late Julian Curtis and Ollie McElrath Curtis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Dewey Young, Sr., who died in 1994; sons, George D. Young, Jr., and Curtis R. Young; sisters, Leota, Montez, Ruth, and Shirley; and brothers, Frank and Charles. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
Mrs. Young is survived by her daughters, Edith Kilpatrick and husband Wayne, of Chapin, SC, and Joan Parnell of Columbia, SC; son, James R. Young and wife Louise, of Columbia; sister, Patsy McManaway of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Revs. Bobby Winebarger and Eric Young, and Mr. Ross Young officiating. Interment will follow at Piney Mountain Methodist Church Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
