Jerald Edward Rathbone, 66, of 36 Steephill Drive, Candler, died Sunday, July 15, 2007. Mr. Rathbone was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Reverend Alton Rathbone. He was a retired truck driver. Surviving are his mother, Lucille Overman Rathbone; six daughters, Becky Surrett and her husband Steve, Angie Surrett and her husband, Mike, Cathey Cordell and her husband, Bill; Sarah Rathbone, Angie Teague and Myranda Parham and her husband Earl; four sons, Dale Rathbone and his wife, Angela, Jerrod Rathbone, Chris Rathbone and his wife Sabrina and Jeremy Rathbone; three sisters, Geraldine Gosnell and her husband, James, Linda Cabe and her husband, Ralph, and Judy Roberts and her husband, Johnny; two brothers, David Rathbone and his wife, Joyce Ann, and Jack Rathbone. Also surviving is his life companion, Nancy Buckner; twenty-four grandchildren; and the mothers of his children, Mary Worley and Lynda Emory. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Furman Wilson and Jeff Massey officiating. Burial will follow at Rathbone Hill. His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

  6. The loss of a loved one is very hard on those of us left behind. You have my deepest sympathy! I lost my dad, John Roberts, in 2001 and I miss him every day. I find comfort knowing that he is with the Lord. God bless you all!
