Jeri Alice Cruz-Segarra Arden- Jeri Alice Cruz-Segarra, 58, of Arden, died on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at her home where she had lived for the past 12 years with her loving husband, Ric. She was born in Moses Lake, Washington on September 23, 1959 and was the daughter of the late John and Edith Dittman. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Ric Cruz-Segarra, and step-daughters Jeanna Snyder and Natasha Cruz-Segarra. Also left to mourn her are sisters Julie McGaffin (Rob) of Ridgewood, N. J. and Jo Ibarra (Robert) of Lynchburg, Va; her nephews, Madison McGaffin, Sam McGaffin, Bobby Ibarra, Joseph Ibarra, and niece, Rebecca Ibarra. Jeri graduated from East Carolina University and worked for many years at the North Carolina Department of Labor. Although she endured many health problems throughout her life, she remained hopeful and kept a positive attitude. Jeri liked to pull for the underdog, evident in her professional, civic, and personal life. Professionally, Jeri fought against discrimination in the workplace; civically, she was a relentless supporter of clean water rights for citizens in North Carolina; and personally, she loved dogs and had a soft spot in her heart for rescue animals. A service celebrating Jeri’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (1201 Riverside Drive, Asheville NC 28804). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jeri’s memory to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org). Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
