Jessie Carlene Smith Sorrells, 83, of Fletcher, died Monday, March 31, 2014. A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Carl Everette and Jessie Fugate Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas Sorrells. Mrs. Sorrells was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Fairview. She is survived by daughters Debra Meadows and husband Phil, and Kathryn Moseley and husband Carson; sons Michael Sorrells and wife Theresa, and Gary Sorrells and wife Dana; grandchildren Jarrod and Jessiene Meadows, Joshua Moseley and wife Krissy, Benjamin Moseley, William Dylan and Rachel Sorrells; five great-grandchildren; and brothers Paul Smith and wife Frankie and Jack Smith and wife Ginny. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church of Fairview, with the Rev. Stacy Harris and the Rev. Dr. Carson Moseley officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alexander Christian Academy, 3919 Icard Ridge Rd., Hickory, NC 28601.
