Jewel Traxler Gilbert

Jewel Traxler Gilbert, of Arden, passed away May 14, 2022.

Jewel was a daughter of the late Sidney Jacob Traxler and Vonciel Buckner Traxler. She was a native of Buncombe County.

In 1962, she married Guy Edward Gilbert. The couple was married for 45 years until his death in 2007.

Jewel was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School. She began her working career at Southern Bell Tel Co. and worked there for 6 years. She later worked at Stencel Aero Engineering Corp. After completing training at Memorial Mission Hospital, she worked there and at St. Joseph Hospital for several years as a Registered X-Ray Technician and Radiological Secretary.

Jewel was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Suzanne Mossburg (her husband Albert); four grandchildren, Jurdan, Lauren, Logan and Ansley, all of Chesnee, SC; one sister, Jean Traxler Cummings of Savannah, GA; one niece, Christy Cummings Sedlacek (her husband Joe) of Social Circle, GA; two nephews, Stewart Scott (his wife Barbara) of New York, NY and their extended family, Steven Cummings (his wife Kristin) of Atlanta, GA.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jewel was also preceded in death by a sister, Yvonne Traxler Scott; two sister in laws, Ruth Gilbert and Kathleen Ensley Gilbert and three brother in laws, Bill Gilbert, Harry Cummings and Dr. Stewart Scott.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 17 at Green Hills Cemetery.

Jewel’s family wishes to thank everyone who provided her with such loving and skilled care.
