J.G. Littrell, 77, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Brian Center of Weaverville. A son of the late Ted and Mollie Shook Littrell, he was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Anita McGaha Littrell, one brother, and three sisters. Mr. Littrell was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea. He worked as a carpenter. He was a diehard Duke fan, and was an accomplished athlete in bowling, horseshoes, softball, and he enjoyed fox hunting. He attended Boyd's Chapel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Joy Littrell; son Richard Littrell; daughter Shirley Littrell; sister Brenda Hudgins; brothers Robert and Roger Littrell; step-children Marsha Goins and husband Jimmie, and Greg Fisher and wife Renee; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jason Littrell officiating. His family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave, and after the service at the home of Traci Clement, 9 Karen Pl., Asheville. The family wishes to express special thanks to the nursing staff of the 600 Hall at the Brian Center.

    You always had such a personality. Every trip to see you, I knew that I would leave laughing so hard that I almost peed my pants. I enjoyed the times that we spent with each other and I know that you are in a better place now, without pain and with a clear mind. You are keeping the angels company with lots of laughter and fun. I’m glad you are in the presence of your loved ones that went before you. Especially your momma, as we all knew you missed her so.

  9. I haven’t seen JG in probably 13 years or so, that was around the time I left Weaverville. I also enjoyed being on the job site working construction with him. He was so funny and enjoyed life so much. Family, you have our prayers, he was definitely one of a kind,
