Jim G. Farmer, 71, of 81 Selwyn Road, Asheville, died Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at the Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Farmer was born in Whittier and was a son of the late Vernon and Sallie Rich Farmer. He was a veteran of the Navy and Marine Corps and was retired after 20 years as a millwright with BASF. He was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hughes Farmer; one daughter, Brenda Sue Farmer of Asheville; one son, Steven James Farmer and his wife Pamela of High Point; one sister, Ruby Netherton of Candler; two brothers, Tommie Farmer and Earl (Chuck) Farmer, both of Candler; one granddaughter, Loftin Farmer and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ken Lewis, James H. Johnson, and David Tucker officiating. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West Asheville Baptist Church Building Fund, 926 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806, or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28806.

  6. I was looking for the obituary of an old school friend and found Jim. I knew and first loved the Farmer family almost 50 years ago, but I still remember Jim well–always with a big smile just the same as in his picture. It is two years later but if anyone in the family still checks the guestbook, please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your loss.
