Born in:
Asheville, NC
Resided in:
Greeneville, TN
Jimmie Ernest Earwood, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 23, 2024, at Greeneville Community Hospital in Tennessee. He was 83 years old. Born to the late James and Ruby Connor Earwood, Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Wilson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Patricia Taylor Earwood; their children Lisa Sherlin and her husband, Wayne; Jeff Earwood and his wife, Laura; and Jennifer Morrow and her husband, Charles, also known as Scooby. He is also survived by his sister, Joanne Shepherd of Christmas, Florida; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jimmie proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps for 20 years, including two tours in Vietnam and postings in Korea, Japan, and Okinawa. After his honorable service, he worked for Southern Railways for 11 years and later retired from over-the-road trucking after 20 years of dedication. A man of deep faith, Jimmie had a passion for studying God’s word and sharing his knowledge with others as a Sunday school teacher. He found joy in listening to Southern Gospel music and was a die-hard fan of Carolina basketball. Friends and family knew better than to interrupt him during a Tar Heels game—a testament to his unwavering devotion to his team. Above all, Jimmie cherished his family. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by his loved ones, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy. Jimmie’s legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of his life will be held at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 3:00 pm with Revs. Tony Youngblood, Dennis Anderson and Jimmy Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be held at the WNC State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 12:00 pm.

Jim was a mighty man of God, shared his faith to all who came into his presence. His faithful to God was most important thing & the Word of God was the tool he used as his guide. He will be missed but heaven will be where we never say goodbye, free from pain and tears. My deepest prayers are with you Pat ( my sister) and all of the family.
