JoAnn Worley Ramsey

joann ramsey
JoAnn Worley Ramsey, who never used her middle name, died early Sunday morning, June 26, 2016, at StoneCreek Health & Rehabilitation, where the staff was wonderful to her. She was 78. A life-long resident of Leicester, JoAnn was the only child of Ketron and Edith Worley, who operated The Trading Post, where she always had her choice of treats. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, Bill Ramsey. Mrs. Ramsey is survived by her son, Ricky Ramsey; and her numerous friends and relatives. JoAnn was a woman of quick temper and firm opinions. A stalwart Democrat from a politically active family, in recent days she vowed never to vote Republican. She will be true to her word. JoAnn loved people and social events. She is pictured square dancing as a young girl in a book on Bascom Lamar Lunsford, the noted "Mountain Minstrel." She coached cheerleaders at Leicester Elementary, where her flamboyant outfits were noted. Appearance was always important to her. JoAnn loved good food but did not cook. She couldn't navigate a grocery store but she was a master at recording multiple television shows, first on VCR and later on TiVo. She was a professional gift wrapper, a skill she learned at Winner's Department Store in the 60s. JoAnn was a passionate Elvis fan and orchestrated family vacations to follow him on tour. She was hard to please with anything except clothes or jewelry, but any present featuring Elvis was always well-received. In later years, she enjoyed VFW on weekends and her girlfriends always. Her phone stayed busy. Ricky especially appreciates help from her friend, Roger, and her hairdresser, Judy. A visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. followed by the funeral service at 5:30 p.m. Interment will take place the following morning at Bell United Methodist Church Cemetery.
