JoAnne Austin McKinney, 53, of Nathan Dr., Arden, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at her residence. JoAnne was born in Buncombe Co. and was a daughter of Joe Calvin and Lillie Henson Austin. She was a beloved mother to all in need, and she will be missed by all. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 37 years, James Edney McKinney; four children, Joanna Owenby and husband John, of Candler, Carrie Burrell and husband Jerry, of Fairview, James McKinney Jr., and Tosha Graham, of Weaverville, and Lillie McKinney and George Melton Jr, of Canton; sisters, Brenda Austin Plumley, of Weaverville, Polly Sowers, of Candler, and Carolyn Austin, also of Candler; brother, Mike Austin, of Landrum, SC; and eight loving grandchildren, Jessica Owenby, Tristian Melton, Kelsey McKinney, Julianne Burrell, Josie Owenby, Kaytlyn Melton, Miranda McKinney, and Caiyalynn Burrell. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Phillip Hurst officiating. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

To each oe of you, as I visited the funeral home tonight so may memories filled my heart and mind,,beginning at age 14/15 for both of us the church services the hayrides,going on to being moms and dads, and all 6 of you youngins (mine ad yours) you all were something. I remember lil james standing in the outfield so small if you didn’t know he was there you would miss him, but Joanna was always there. Always there for all of you thru good and bad times and she loved all of you dearly, espically you big james. And lets don’t forget those grandbabies from the oldest to the yougest they were nana’s pride and joy, I can’t help but smile as I remember the memories they will always be there. Remember your mom loved you all very much,as you did her. Please take care,may God give you peace to go thru the next few months.Please keep in touch I can’t believe it’s been 38 years .with much Love joanna I’ll see you there. Til we meet again

  10. Dear James and Family, I am so very sorry for your great loss. Always liked Joanne and all of your family was special to me. Sorry I have lost touch with you all, however, I do think about you all often and wonder how you all are doing! May God’s peace and grace take you through this difficult time in your lives. He is a Great comfort and shelter in time of the storm! Trust in Him always!
