Joe Carroll Winders

Joe Carroll Winders, 55 of 112 Louisiana Ave., Asheville, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 in Hospice Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Nathaniel and Donnie Cudd Winders. He was a retired employee of Nettlewood Nurseries. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wykle Winders; four daughters including his best friend Marie King and her husband Gene of Pensacola, FL, Michelle Woodring, Janet Phillips, Vanessa Sharpe; son, Charles Sneed; sisters, Viola Reeves and her husband James of Candler, Ella Mae Sprouse and her husband Larry, Barbara Reed and her husband Bud all of Barnardsville, Louise Willis and her husband Larry of Mars Hill; brother, James William Winders and his wife Carolyn of Barnardsville; grandchildren, Amanda King, Samantha Thomas, Nathan King, Autumn Phillips, Michael Woodring, Shay Woodring and Seth Sharpe; special cousin, Arthur Harwood, special aunt and uncle, Dessie and Raymond Harwood with whom he had recently made his home. Uncles Fred and William Cudd both of Barnardsville; several nieces, nephews great- nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Rev. Vince Keith and brother Ernest Gibson will officiate with burial following in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
