Joel Dewitt Cogburn, 57, of 67 Piney
Mountain Church Rd., Candler, died Sunday,
November 8, 1998 in an Asheville Hospital.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son
of the late Louis and Lucille Gambell Cogburn.
He was owner/operator of Joel Cogburn Barber
and Style and Joel Cogburn Real Estate. He was
a 32nd degree Mason with Hominy Lodge # 491,
a charter member of the Land of the Sky Horse
Show, and a member of the Oasis Temple
Shrine. Mr. Cogburn was also a member of
Hominy Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne Bradshaw
Cogburn; sons and daughter-in-law, John
Russell Cogburn of Candler and James Donald
and Emily Plemmons of Knoxville, TN; a sister
Barbara McDaniel of Hickory; a brother Bruce
Cogburn of Candler; and a grandson Ryan
Christopher Plemmons.
Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Tuesday in
the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home, conducted
by the Rev. H.D. Houck. Masonic graveside rites
will be provided by the Hominy Lodge #491 at
Pisgah View Memorial Park. The lodge will
open at 1:30 pm.
Mr. Cogburn's family will receive friends from
1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.

Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Rd.,
Greenville, SC 29605.
