John "Calvin" Hyatt passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 1, 2012, after a lengthy health decline.
He was the son of the late Mr. W. Lane and Wilma Hyatt, a Buncombe County native, and attended Sardis UMC. He was a Veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge, an avid hunter and outdoorsman, a passionate fan of NASCAR, and an enthusiastic storyteller of times past.
He is survived by his brother, Norburn and his wife, Martha; children Sonja Allen and her husband, Larry, and Jon Hyatt; grandchildren Keri, Mallory, Jason and Andrew; and great-grandchildren Jace, Julian, and Aaron.
The family would like to thank all who have helped and visited with him through his journey including the Valor Hospice team and the VA Medical Center.
A memorial service and military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 6 in the chapel of the Western NC Veteran's Cemetery. Chaplin Jeremiah Richards and Masonic Lodge Member John Burchfield will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Calvin may be made to Sardis United Methodist Church, 897 Brevard Rd., Asheville, NC 28806, or to CLC Valor Hospice, c/o Department of Veterans Affairs, 1100 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, NC 28805.

Sad to hear the news of the passing of my 1st cousin. Calvin was good to me, many years ago. RIP. To the family,my condolences, may God’s wisdom lead you from today.

We were honored to share many good conversations and days enjoying his company.It was always a pleasure to see him and something we looked forward to.
