John Carl Moody, 90, of Asheville, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Emerald Ridge Care Facility. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Harry L. Moody Sr. and Lizzie Murray Moody. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. John was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was a member and past Master of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446. He was also a member of Skyland United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fannie Mildred Smith Moody; three daughters, Brenda Moody of Asheville, Barbara Moody Weinkle and her husband, Brian, of Asheville and Beverly Moody Wood and her husband, Rick, of Hendersonville; one sister, Kathleen Moody Young and her husband, L.G., of Skyland; two grandchildren, Andrew Weinkle and his wife, Jennifer and Angela Weinkle McGee and her husband, Cody and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Grace Weinkle. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 15, 2012 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Reverend Keith Turman officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. The Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446 will open at 1:30 PM on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's memory to either the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565 or to CarePartners Adult Day Services, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

    it has given me great pleasure to care for fannie and getting to know your family the past few years. mr moody was such a sweet, thoughtful, and caring person who had a wonderful sense of humor. i knew i would get a hug every time i saw him,and those will be missed. my thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. if there is anything i can do, please let me know.

  2. Barbara, I am so sorry about the loss of your dad. It is hard to give up parents. Mine still are with me daily with great fond memories and I am sure your memories will be many. I can still remember walking across Overlook from the ball field to your house and how kind your parents were to me when we were so young. Good memories do not leave us. My prayers are with all of you. Heaven is real and aren’t you glad we will see our loved ones again. My love to all.

  9. I knew John for several years as a master workman and a masonic lodge member. He was always interested in you and what you were doing. He was a good family man, telling me not long ago that he was repairing his daugher’s plumbing. I will miss his fellowship. I am praying you the family.
