John Ervin Riggins, 95, of Fletcher, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at his residence.
A native of Easley, SC, he was a son of the late John Melvick and Vinnie Perry Riggins. He was also preceded in death by his first wife (of 58 years), Ruth Frady Riggins; two brothers, Arthur and Clifton Riggins and one infant sister, Inez Riggins.
John proudly served in the US Navy during World War II. He retired from Southern Bell as a plant manager following 37 years of service. He was a longtime member of Biltmore Baptist Church and the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Goode-Riggins; his only child, Jim Riggins (Barbara); two sisters, Lila Greene and Lou Ellen Cole; one brother, Marshall Riggins, as well as three step-children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
