John Hubert Ream

John Hubert Ream, 86, of Swannanoa, NC passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Mission Hospital. Hubert was born in Altoona, PA to the late A. Willard and Alma Knisely Ream. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1955 with a degree in architectural engineering and was an avid PSU football fan. He worked as an architect for his entire career. He was a member of Groce United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, Alpha Rho Chi, Scarab, P. Gamma Alpha and volunteered at the Rathbun Center. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Masonic Lodge #276 A.F. and A.M. in Beaver, PA. Hubert was a veteran of the US Army Corps of Engineers and had been stationed in Germany from 1955-1957. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Hansma. Survivors include his wife of almost fifty years, Elizabeth Marsh Ream; daughter, Rebecca Strimple (Brett); three grandchildren: Nelson, John and Samuel Strimple; and sister Martha Atwater. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Groce United Methodist Church, 954 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, NC. A reception will follow at Craggy View Cottages Club House, 134 Outlook Circle, Swannanoa, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Groce UMC, 954 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC, 28805. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.
