Asheville – John J. “Jack” Gillis, Jr., 90, of Asheville, died Friday, September 1, 2023 at The Lodge at Mills River.
A native of Brunswick, GA, he was a son of the late John J. Gillis, Sr. and Minnie Ricks Gillis. Jack was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Anda Anderson Gillis, formerly of Cedar Hill, Texas.
Jack left us peacefully Friday night, listening to his favorite song, “Mental Floss”, from Jimmy Buffett’s Banana Wind album. He asked that you take your loved one for a spin around the dance floor whenever you can. Go out for a late afternoon latté too. If you get a chance to go for sushi, all the better.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Gillis (Samuel Secrest) of Mills River as well as a son, J. Andrew Gillis (Judy) of Edgewater, FL.
Private services will be held at a later date. Jack was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
