Mr. John "Jack" August Mraz, of Asheville, NC, died peacefully on July 11, 2018, at the age of 86.
John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara B. Mraz, of Asheville; daughter, Jacqueline Marie Mraz, of Los Angeles, CA; son, John August Mraz Jr, of Marshall, NC, step sons, Sam Fagan, of Charlotte, NC, and Tim Fagan, of Asheville, and their lovely wives and children; and his sister, Geraldine Payette, of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gayanne Tanner Hall, of Douglas, GA, and his daughter, Emily May Mraz, of Charlotte.
John was born on September 15, 1931, in Chicago. He graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Degree in Law after serving as a Marine in Korea. He practiced Law in both Charlotte and Asheville for nearly 50 years. He was devoted to both his profession and his family.
His wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread near the Mecklenburg County Courthouse, by family, and without a service.
We, his family, would like to thank the people and staff at Brookdale Asheville Walden Ridge Senior and Assisted Living Center for their wonderful and loving care of our beloved relative. They went above and beyond in all ways, and we will be eternally grateful to them. We would also like to thank Four Seasons Hospice for their help in helping John transition into his next life.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
With sympathy and warm memories of past times shared, Jaqui and John.
John, I was sorry to hear of your father’s passing and wished to send my condolences, and those of my family and particularly my mother-in-law, Betsy Farmer Peace, who was Jack’s classmate and friend at UNC-Chapel Hill and who has always remembered with fondness. May the Lord grant you all peace and comfort in this time of grieving and loss.
Babs – so very sorry. This has been a tough journey but, now he is free. Think the first thing he did was as St. Peter for a cigarette?
So miss seeing you around the neighborhood. I hope you are content in your new digs. To you and your family, our sincerest sympathy.
Babs…..I sit here with tears in my eyes – we had NO IDEA! I was just googling Jack and saw the news. I am so sad. We really miss you!!!! Sending our love to you and your family.
