John L. Israel

He was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late Lane B. and Ardie P. Israel. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Clayton Israel, and his second wife, Frances Hamilton Israel.

John was employed for 37 years by Western Union as wire chief and computer technician at Albany, GA. He was a Master Mason, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and member of the Hasan Temple Shrine in Dougherty, GA.

He is survived by a brother, Edgar P. Israel and his wife Till Israel of Brevard; a nephew, John M. Israel; a niece, Sherri I. Scott and her husband David; and a great-nephew, Spencer Scott, all of Atlanta, GA.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 pm Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home.

His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and request that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Kidney Foundation.
