John Michael Penta, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 while visiting in Long Island, NY.

John was born on December 17, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Marco and Anna Penta (née Mikoch). He was married to Marie Penta (née Buzzetta) for 38 years, whom passed away in 2017. He was an ASE Certified Master Mechanic for over 51 years and worked for the Buncombe County Garage for 27 years, servicing the sheriff dept. vehicles, EMS ambulances and other miscellaneous county cars. He was also a member of the local Blue Ridge Mustangs Club and an avid Lionel train collector.

He is survived by his daughter Connie Szczesny, son-in-law John Szczesny, granddaughter Angelina Szczesny, all of Candler, and his brother Frank (Iveth) Penta of Old Bridge, NJ.

An Italian wake will be held on Thursday May 19th, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. The graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Fr. Dean Cesa on Friday May 20th, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Green Hills Cemetery.
