Arden ~ John Russell Craig, Sr., 72, of Avery's Creek Rd., died Thursday, April 18, 2002 after a short illness.

John was born in Buncombe County and lived most of his life in the Avery's Creek Community. He was the son of the late Hugh and Coralee Welborn Craig.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Audrey Gasperson Craig of the home; three sons, ''Rusty'' Craig and his wife, MaryJo, ''Rick'' Craig and his wife, Sheila, ''Rod'' Craig and his wife,Linda; one daughter, MaryBeth Craig Curtis and her husband, Frank, all of the Avery's Creek Community in Arden; one sister, Margaret Baldwin of College Park,GA; seven grandchldren, Nicki and husband, Greg, John, Branden, Tami and husband Willie, Audra, Adam and Jesse; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kim, and a large extended family that will miss him dearly.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 20th at 5:00 PM at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with last rites by Masonic Lodge #446 of which he was a longtime member.

There will be a celebration of life Sunday, April 21st at 1:00 PM at ''THE RIVER'' off of Glen Bridge Road. All friends and family are welcome.

Memorials may be made to Elizabeth House of Hendersonville, 511 South Allen Rd., Hendersonville, NC 28731 or to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.

    to Mr. Craig. I dearly loved him and his family
    and it was always a pleasure to take care of them
    many Sunday and Thursday evenings. I will miss
    him. Thanks for giving me the priviledge of knowing
    such a precious man. Hope to see you all again.
